The souks of Marrakech are a dizzying, intoxicating maze of sights, sounds, and smells. The first rule is to embrace getting a little lost; it’s part of the experience! But having a few tricks up your sleeve can make the experience more enjoyable. When you find something you like, the bargaining process begins. It’s a friendly and expected part of the culture. The first price you’re quoted is just a starting point. A good rule of thumb is to counter with about half the asking price and work your way to a middle ground you’re both happy with. Always be polite, smile, and be prepared to walk away – sometimes that’s when you’ll get the best offer.

Don’t be afraid to ask for directions, but be aware that some unofficial “guides” may expect a tip for leading you. A better bet is to ask a shopkeeper.
